Chrome Magnetic Mystical Nails: How to Make Magic Nails
I named these nails "Magic Nails" because they create the illusion of magic moving inside them. Since it's the fall/spooky season, I wanted to create a design that can evoke those vibes. I enjoy incorporating "easter eggs" or subtle hints of the inspiration behind my sets, something not too obvious for the fashion-forward ladies out there. I aimed for an edgy and chic Halloween theme. I shared this set and it was a favorite this month so promised a tutorial. Here's a step-by-step guide so you can impress your customers with this enchanting set.

Just wanted to let you know that you can get a 10% discount on any of the products I talked about today by using my code NAILFABS at Zillabeau. Additionally, you should definitely check out the Press on Portal for all the education you need to start and grow your press-on nail business. One of my favorite resources is the masterclass on prepping the nails.

Prep

1.To prepare the nails for product application, begin by shaping and buffing the nail tips to your desired length and shape. It's important to complete all filing and shaping before applying the product to ensure proper adhesion and prevent the gel from peeling off the nail.

When I first started selling press-ons, I didn't spend much time prepping the nails, but I soon learned that there is a proven method to prevent the gel from peeling off and avoid unhappy customers requesting refunds.

Nails can peel off if they are cut or reshaped after the topcoat has been applied or when using press-on removal solution products containing acetone, alcohol, and oils. If the seal is broken by reshaping or shortening the press-on nails, the layers of product will start lifting and peeling off.

If you want your press-on nails to last for weeks, I have a helpful tip for you. Before applying the gel, make sure to use a matte surface and do all the filing and shaping beforehand. If you're interested in learning more about how to properly prepare press-on nails, check out the Press on Portal masterclass on prepping. You'll get recommended materials and a step-by-step tutorial by Jerri of Dippy Cow Nails, the Press on Portal's inventor and developer. It's a great resource!

2.To start creating the illusion of a night sky, apply a darker base color. Sheer, jelly-like colors like dark purple or blue work well for this. I recommend using Tiny TYY-030, but you could also try F GEL SYRUP GEL FS87 or MARIE ATELIER SYRUP GEL 36. Apply a thin layer and cure for at least 30 seconds.

Magnetic gel

3.Next, apply your favorite magnetic gel. For a more magical effect, I suggest using a multicolored magnetic gel like Leafgel Space Opera color #55 or #56. Apply one layer of the magnetic gel, and use a strong magnet to push all the glitter particles to the center of the nail. Slowly bring the magnet to the tip, top, and sides of the nail to create a jewel effect. You can also experiment with the placement of the magnetic glitter to create different background designs. Once you're satisfied with the placement, cure the nail under a lamp for 30 seconds.

Stickers

4.To add a mystical touch, I opted for Make.N Metal Universe Stickers in silver. They also offer gold stickers if you prefer a gold starry night. I must say, Make.N stickers are quite amazing and unlike any other stickers I have used. They are incredibly thin, adhere to the nails perfectly, and create a seamless look.

5.For the best results, let's make sure your stickers stick properly! First, clean the sticky layer on your nail tip with a lint-free wipe and some alcohol. Leaving the layer could cause the sticker to slide and mess it up. Once you've got a clean surface, use tweezers to carefully peel off the sticker from the sheet and place it onto your nail. You can then use a silicone tool to gently press and smooth it out.

6.For sealing the stickers, it's recommended to apply a layer of thin base coat. Personally, I prefer using F gel base gel as it is very thin and durable. This gel is ideal for sealing stickers, chrome, fine glitter, and pigments. Apply a thin layer and cure it in the lamp for at least 30 seconds.

Mirror Chrome

7.Let's talk about Chrome! For a mirror-like finish, there are a few things to keep in mind to avoid frustration. Ensure the surface is 100% smooth, as any dips, lips, or lint will show. If you notice any unevenness, apply a layer of thin topcoat or slightly thicker base gel. Cure it using a lamp, then use a sponge buffer file to smooth out the surface completely.

8.I recently tried the Chakhan Glossy Top Gel from HoHolee and it has become my new favorite chrome gel. The gel has the perfect consistency to cover up any imperfections without adding bulk. As it is slightly thicker, I didn't have to spend any extra time buffing the surface to make it smooth. This product is perfect for those who want a hassle-free chrome finish. I make sure to cure the topcoat for at least 60 seconds, and since I'm using liquid chrome, I don't need to worry about the curing time of the topcoat..

If you have chrome powder, use it. Otherwise, I recommend Kokoist's liquid chrome paints, specifically the Peacock shade and HoHoLee Mirror Gloss HCP-04.

9.To apply chrome paint on your nails, it's best to use a makeup sponge. Remember, only a makeup sponge can achieve a mirror effect. Avoid using a makeup applicator, silicone tool, or your finger. If the chrome doesn't stick, try cleaning the nail surface with alcohol on a wipe before trying again. I learned This great tip from the Press on Portal Chrome Masterclass.

After applying the first chrome coat, use a microfiber cloth (like the one used to clean sunglasses) to wipe the nail surface. Apply a second coat of liquid chrome and repeat the process.
Then, use a thin base gel and apply a layer to seal the chrome. Cure the nails in the lamp for 30 seconds, being careful not to apply too much pressure and disrupt the chrome, especially when using powder chrome pigment.

10.Apply the final coat of HoHoLee Chakhan Glossy Top Gel and cure for 60 seconds. Voila! Seasonal nails with a touch of magic and mystique.
